The hk prize is one of Asia’s premier high school contests that rewards academic achievements and extracurricular participation. Participants have the chance to win monetary prizes, as well as the opportunity to conduct scientific research at Hong Kong’s premier facilities.

The award’s symbol, expressed in the trophies conferred upon winners and in the award logo, juxtaposes two precious elements – a pearl and a pierced jade amulet. The design has happy connotations in both Chinese and Western contexts. The prize is open to any student who combines excellence in scholarship with achievement in community service and leadership.

HK Prize aims to celebrate students who demonstrate outstanding scholarship, excellent character and dedication to community service. It recognises the need to develop young people with a greater sense of responsibility for their society, and aims to provide them with an opportunity to shine.

Hong Kong’s nine art prize finalists made it the most represented city in the history of the biennial event. Two-thirds of the shortlist were women, a first in the history of the prize. The winner of the art prize will be announced at a ceremony next week.

Kong’s resilience inspired fans. A fan, Yoyo Chan, said she woke up at 4am to take a bus from Hung Hom to the airport to see Kong. She cried when she saw Kong, who congratulated her on winning the gold medal and gave her a kiss. “I’m so happy for her,” she said. “I hope she will keep achieving more. Her courage and confidence are a lesson for us.”

The late Benny Chan’s cops-and-robbers actioner Raging Fire won best film at the 40th Hong Kong Film Awards, which returned after the pandemic to commend films from 2020 and 2021. The film also won awards for best action choreography and best film editing. Actor Andy Lau took home a prize for best actor, while director and co-producer Donnie Yen won best director.

Kong praised her fellow fencers, saying that they have put in a lot of hard work and that Hongkongers should not measure athletes’ efforts solely by results. She added that she hopes to go snowboarding in the future now that her knees no longer hurt.

A total of 113 awards were handed out at the 2022 News Awards, including four for arts and culture journalism. Senior reporter Xi Tianqi won a second runner-up prize for her series on the government’s efforts to turn Hong Kong into a cultural hub, and copy editor James Cook earned a second runner-up for his series on the greener use of electric cars.
